PI Bala wows the crowd - Lisa J. Ariffin
PI Balasubramaniam captivates the audience in his first public experience.
KUALA LUMPUR: Support for P Balasubramaniam during his first public appearance following his return to Malaysia was nothing short of overwhelming.
Hundreds thronged the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH) last night to catch a glimps of the private investigator who implicated Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak in the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu.
Organised by pro-opposition group Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM), the forum “Who Killed Altantuya?” was also graced by PKR Rembau division chief Badrul Hisham Shaharin (Chegubard), Cynthia Gabriel from human rights NGO Suaram and controversial cartoonist Zunar.
During the forum, Balasubramaniam shared his experience working for Abdul Razak Baginda by recounting his first statutory declaration (SD) in detail.
The crowd cheered whenever he mentioned Altantuya’s name, and jeered when he spoke of Najib.
Balasubramaniam then pledged his suport to Pakatan, and said he would “do anything” to see the opposition coalition come to power in the upcoming general election.
Despite welcoming the public to pose questions to Balasubramaniam, Chegubard ended the forum after the former finished his speech.
When approached by reporters, Chegubard said his group would be organising a press conference with Balasubramaniam “sometime soon”, but declined to say when.
Chegubard also said that three KLSCAH workers have been detained on the suspicion of drug use moments before the forum, but did not elaborate further.
On Sunday, Balasubramaniam returned to Malaysia and immediately declared that the first SD he made in 2008 on the murder of Altantuya was the truth.
Balasubramaniam alleged that Najib was involved in the murder of Altantuya and then Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan was asked to “take care” of the case for Najib.
However, he produced the SD the next day and retracted all his allegations against Najib.
