Dirty, Smelly water supply in Sandakan

Sandakan, Dec 18, 2010: the Sandakan Chinese Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) has expressed disappointment at the poor quality of water supply here.

SCCC secretary Stephen Wong said in a statement that he had received a lot of complaints from residents at Mile 12 about the running water being not only inadequate but also always 'dirty and smelly', making it unsuitable for consumption.

The water supplied was always smelly and filled with black sediments, he said.

Wong said the SCCC felt that the Water Department should look into the quality of water supplied tot he consumers as the problem has persisted for a long time.

Water Department district engineer Jeffrey Chong, when asked to comment on the complaint, said the dark colour of thew water was due to flushing of the water tanks.

Meanwhile, Wong advised those who received emails sent by one "Ah Liaw" of SCCC, asking for financial aid, to ignore the emails.

"Please ignore those email messages from "Ah Liaw" as we feel that it is a cheating case," he said.
