Keep your word, Sabah police chief told - FMT

The state BN, PKR and SAPP want a probe on self-proclaimed 'Sulu Sultan' Akjan Ali now that they have all lodged police reports.

KOTA KINABALU: National interest took precedence over political differences when three groups, concerned about the “threat to souvereignty”, lodged separate police reports against the Sulu Sultanate’s self-proclaimed ruler Mohamad Akjan Ali.

The Sabah groups – Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth, PKR and Sabah Progressive Party – lodged their reports at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing.

PKR communication director Ronnie Klassen said that PKR decided to lodge the report in response to Sabah Police Commissioner Hamza Taib’s statement.

Hamza, who was responding to public calls for police to investigate Akjan, said that they could only do so if a police report was lodged.

” Now that we have lodged a police report against Akjan, we want the police commissioner to take immediate action. He should keep his word.

“Malaysians, especially Sabahans, are waiting for the police to carry out their investigation as we are confused over whether we are in Malaysia or in the Philippines.

“It is impossible for a person claiming to be a Malaysian to install himself as the Sultan of Sulu and that too in Sabah,” Klassen said.

Sovereignty issue
 

In his report Klassen, who was accompanied by PKR’s national integration bureau chief Dr Chong Eng Leong, said Akjan was reportedly born in southern Philippines but holds a MyKad which states his birthplace as Sabah.

News reports have stated that Akjan was born in Jambangan Nipah-Nipah Jolo in the southern Philippines on Nov 23, 1957. However, his MyKad shows his birthdate is July 7, 1957 and place, Sabah.

Meawhile, Sabah BN in its report called on the police to investigate the authenticity of Akjan’s Malaysian citizenship as well as claims that the latter had asked the Suluk community to be loyal to him.

Youth deputy chief Wedley Disim lodged BN’s report yesterday evening. He was accompanied by Youth chief Azman Hj Ruslan, and Youths leaders from Gerakan and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS).

BN Youth is seeking immediate police probe and action against Akjan as the issue, it said, could threaten the country’s sovereignty.

On Feb 2, Akjan reportedly took the oath of allegiance in a private coronation ceremony in Kampung Likas here witnessed by some 60 people, including senior officials of the Sulu Sultanate from the Sulu province in the southern Philippines.

Akjan installed installed himself as the 33rd reigning Sultan of Sulu and now carried the title Paduka Maulana Al-Sultan Sharif Ali Muhammad Pulalun or Sultan Hashim Shariful-II.
