Sarawak DAP’s ‘strategy’ of appointing a Muslim to manage its Malay-majority Tupong service centre has drawn flak.
KUCHING:
A pro-government blog has slammed Sarawak DAP’s move to assign a Muslim
to manage its Tupong service centre, accusing the opposition party of
using religion as their weapon to penetrate the Malay majority Barisan
Nasional stronghold.
The blog – UnReportedNews – said appointing Abdul Aziz Isa, a Melanau-Iban, to handle Tupong area was ‘a ploy’.
It claimed that Aziz was poised to contest against the current Tupong state assemblyman, Daud Abdul Rahman, in the next state elections.
“There must be a ‘ploy’ in Aziz’s appointment as a Sarawak DAP representative in Malay/Muslim area, as normally DAP would not be that ‘generous’ in letting in a ‘new face’, what more to say a Muslim, to contest for them without expecting any ‘sacrifice’ in return,” said a posting last week.
UnReportededNews also alleged that Aziz had once revealed to its blogger that one of the issues the latter would use against Daud, who also a state assistant minister, was the contention that the current management of Baitulmal Sarawak’s funds as ‘wrong’
“Here we can see how determined Sarawak DAP is to penetrate into Malay/Muslim areas by carefully planning into matters like this for a long time,” the blog said.
Aziz, who is a special assistant to Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen, has also been the butt of derisive remarks from the Sarawak Malay Civilisation Association (Pertubuhan Peradaban Melayu Sarawak – Adab) which had accused him of being a ‘three-star stooge, Malay traitor and apostate’ in a Facebook posting which has since been removed.
Aziz has since reportedly chastised the NGO. He said: “I am sad these people made slander and false accusation in the month of shawal that is full of forgiveness.
“What does Adab mean by ‘apostate’? Adab is playing up racial sentiments here.
“It is an immature action from an NGO,” he said.
