Shazryl takes sole responsibility for sex video - By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani

KUALA LUMPUR, Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah said todayhe is the sole person responsible for the screening of a sex video allegedly featuring Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and a female prostitute.

He told The Malaysian Insider today that Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik and Datuk Shuib Lazim were not involved in the video screening.

The 21-minute tape was shown to a group of journalists by a mysterious “Datuk T” on March 21.

Datuk T was later revealed as Shazryl, former Malacca Chief Minister Rahim and former Perkasa treasurer Shuib.

Shazryl (picture) was responding today to a statement made by CID deputy chief Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani that police had concluded their investigation into the sex video.

Acryl said the police had wrapped up their investigation under the Penal Code for the distribution of obscene material and the investigation papers would be sent to the Attorney-General’s Chambers soon.

He also said the identity of the owner of the Omega watch alleged by Shazryl to have been worn by the man in the video was not central to the case.

“The identity of the watch’s owner is not an issue. What is important in our investigation is who is responsible for screening the video,” Acryl told reporters.

Shazryl told The Malaysian Insider today that he alone was responsible for the screening and not Rahim and Shuib.

“I am responsible and take full responsibility over the screening. Why I chose to screen? I will explain in court,” he said.

Shazryl also insisted on the importance of finding the owner of the Omega watch.

“The Omega watch is very important. We should find who the owner of the watch is. I think it is a very important piece of evidence but it is up to the police. I do not want to be involved.

“However I still think it is important but I should not comment further as I do not want to get involved. It is up to the police,” he said.

The Datuk T trio had claimed that Anwar had left his watch behind in the hotel room during the time of the recording.

They said that the watch later came into their possession and surrendered it to the police recently, along with the video to aid investigations.

Shazryl also said that a royal commission over the sex clip was still needed as the actor has not been identified.

“We will see what the police have to say first. We want to know who the actor is. We want the police to identify and confirm the actor and then we will decide how we want to go about this.

“It depends. I will let the public decide if they want the RCI or not. It is for public interest,” he said.

Anwar has filed a police report denying he was the man recorded and said that “the stomach of the man was much bigger than” his.

A poll, conducted by independent survey house Merdeka Center earlier this month, found that a majority of the people interviewed believe Anwar was merely a victim of character assassination in the latest sex video scandal.

The poll also discovered that respondents agree the video had been released to destroy the former deputy prime minister’s political career.
