Najib sees Eurobond issue, fuel subsidy cut next year. Malaysia will issue a small international bond next year to part fund its budget deficit, although the majority of the expected deficit of 5.6 per cent of gross domestic product will be funded domestically, Najib Razak told Reuters today.
Najib, in a rare interview with the foreign press, said that he would press ahead with economic reforms in a bid to win back foreign investment and said that state investment funds including Khazanah Nasional had been instructed to sell down their holdings of companies listed on Bursa Malaysia. “It is up to the management of Khazanah or EPF (Employees Provident Fund) to decide the particular companies that they divest their holdings,” he said. One of the biggest challenges facing the government as it seeks to address the budget deficit is to reduce fuel subsidies. The 2010 budget calls for all subsidies to fall to RM20.9 billion from RM24.5 billion in 2009.
