Sivarasa and Ansari among those out of new PKR line-up

PETALING JAYA: As the dust settled after the long and bruising PKR polls, the party will have to face up to new realities with some familiar faces ousted.

PKR has long boasted about its multiracial composition, but the results of the elections did not reflect that.

There was also no room for candidates from Sabah and Sarawak, where PKR claimed it had made inroads.

Among the big names who fell were Subang MP R. Sivarasa, Selangor executive councillor Dr Xavier Jayakumar, former Sabah party chief Ansari Abdullah and current Sarawak chief Baru Bian.

PKR will also be without Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, who has quit.

Yesterday, PKR reacted to Zaid’s resignation by “terminating” his membership with immediate effect. The former Cabinet minister had provided notice to the party to quit on Dec 16, with reference to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s failed bid to take over Putrajaya on Sept 16, 2008.

The big winner, however, is Anwar’s daughter Nurul Izzah, who is said to have topped the vice-presidency elections.
